More Inspiration, Please

It appears gospel video clips are becoming ‘one way’. Most of them have the same scenes of people being maltreated.

It’s all fair and good to promote the cause of justice and equality for victims of such abuse. But what about the sinners? I believe that the real people who should be delivered are the sinners. It is those who are abusing those victims in the video clips who need salvation and divine deliverance to correct them in their ways. More people are sinning out there than being abused.

Watching those video clips doesn’t inspire me at all. I tend to distance myself from what’s happening on the screen; after all, I can’t imagine myself abusing my stepchild or my house help. And even if I did, the way the clips are shown doesn’t actually make me feel anything is amiss in me, because I might just be punishing that stubborn brat of a maid (spare the rod…). I think that the gospel singers need to find out what it really takes to inspire such misguided people.

Again, the focus shouldn’t be all on abuses. There are many other kinds of sin which people indulge in and which are more common. Adultery and fornication, for example, in my opinion, rank higher in getting you a one-way ticket to hell than physical assault. Directors of gospel video clips, please be a little more innovative and try to make your scenes match the lyrics of the songs.
