It has been established that Kumasi is the unofficial capital of gospel music in Ghana and that most of the accomplished gospel musicians in this country today can be found or traced to the Garden City.

Another Kumasi artiste who seems set to continue this trend is OJ or Michael Oware Sakyi who has released his debut album 'Adom Ne Odo' (Grace and Love).

Currently a student of music at the Performing Arts, Legon, OJ says "Music is my life. I don't see myself doing anything else".

'Adom ne Odo' is an eight-track album produced by Nana Yaw Obeng for Morvee Productions.

The major theme that runs through the album is that of inspiration and songs like 'Obi Nya W'aye', 'Koso Na Koso' and 'Fa Mpaebo' are bound to lift up anybody whose spirit is down.

'Obi Nya W'aye' is the best song on the album and is sung with such a passion by OJ that will touch the heart of anybody who listens to it.

OJ talks about why he wrote this; "I had this pair of shoes I called alignment shoes because one sole was higher than the other and every time I prayed I told God to change them but it didn't happen".

"One day I visited my auntie who is a midwife at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and she took me to the surgical ward. When we got there, this man who was the sole survivor in an accident that had cost him both legs was narrating his story to his visitor".

"My curiosity was aroused and I drew closer and what touched me most that even though he had lost both legs he was still grateful to God and thanked him for delivering him from the accident. It got to me because here I was complaining about my alignment shoes and this man who was maimed for life still found reason to thank God".

'Koso Na Koso' is another beautiful song in Twi and English in which OJ encourages people never to be discouraged no matter what happens because so long as there is life there is still hope for us".

'Fa Mpaebo' is in the slow vein and is also another impressive song that tells us to lift up our eyes and pray to God for solutions when we are over burdened by problems in life and we feel as if everyone has deserted us. Here OJ's voice is put to really good use.

On 'Adom Ne Odo', the title track, OJ asks God to grant him grace and love to enable him serve him better and get through life.

One of OJ's future plans is to set up a fund for street kids because he has always had a heart for them. "I want to be able to contribute in making life better for them. You can never predict a child's future so there is the need to invest in them to ensure that they at least get the right foundation".
