General Marcus
He came from nowhere to conquer the world of rag-life music. However, the man they say survived hardships has had the world at his feet since the release of his mega maiden album, ‘Shidaa’ (Thank You).

After 8 years of making music-good music-, General Marcus has gotten better with time. His maiden album has sold platinum, and he has remained on his feet against all odds. He hit fame with his first album and since then he has not looked back.

Born in real life as Mark Kwashie Tudzie in 1971 in Accra to Mr. Philip Tudzie and Mrs. Dora Amekudzi, General Marcus started singing whilst in school at F’eden Preparatory School even though his parents were not supportive.

The native of Aflao in the Volta Region who was inspired by Jamaicans to do music in the early 90’s did not get the support from people due to the kind of music he was doing -rag-life.

In 1989, he started playing at the Top Shelf Night Club where he received a lot of acclaim. In 1991, through the help of Samson Quin, he featured on ‘Wheel of Fortune’- a programme that was put together by Guinness Ghana Ltd.

The Kente band later on handpicked him in 1993 to show Ghanaians what he had got inside him. This continued for a long time and in 1997, he got a deal with another Night Club by name Miracle Mirage.

General Marcus was then invited to perform at the National Theatre during its opening on ‘Show Tyme’ that was aired on TV after his sterling performances at Labadi Beach, GIS and Christ the King Int.

The former student of Kateco and Modern College of Science and Technology after several performances finally got a deal cooking when Norman Fish Ward (a producer) saw the best in him.

Norman took him over to Jamaica to record his first album at Groove Studios, and in 1997, the album ‘Shidaa’ that had tracks like ‘Akose’, ‘M’adi Wakyi Daa’, ‘Sane ni agbaa’ (Untold Story), ‘Mr. Big Man’, ‘Bring Your Loving Come’ was released.

The ‘Shidaa’ album saw him performing at shows in Jamaica like Culture Night with big artistes such as Beenie Man and Papa San.

This year, General Marcus will officially become a threat as he releases his second album titled ‘Remember Me’ that was recorded at Jet Star Records in London. The album is jam packed with a host of superstar guests like Jimmy Thunder, Paulina Oduro, Loo and Lisha Springa.

Joining rag-life’s most phosphorescent front man is none other than Paulina Oduro on ‘Oh Oh Oh Ah Ah Ah’ which talks about a girl who was nice to him from the beginning but after some time exhibited her true behaviour.

The 13 track-album has other lovely tracks like ‘Sagaa’, ‘African Man’, ‘Akpe’ (Thanks), ‘Ono’ (referring to God), ‘You are not there for Me’, ‘Chase them out of the town’ and ‘Hallelujah’. The unflappable performer has indeed sparked many inspired 'moments' along the way and captivated audiences around the globe with his pure voice, evocative songs and intense spirit.

Ever since he burst onto the scene, General has been one of the most respected, recognizable and charismatic figures in rag-life. General is a smart and stylish artiste who has some impressive accomplishments behind him and a career of unlimited possibility ahead.

General whose critics believed that he would not make it to the top of the game after going through the difficulties has re-invented himself, surviving criticisms. Music aficionados can bear with me that rag-life cannot be anything without General Marcus.

Listen to this artiste and keep an eye out for him in the years to come. General Marcus’ album will be out soon! He can be reached on 233 24 27 1772.
