Swerving deserving artiste since 2000; Charter House Music Awards

Ghanaian musicians are about to experience another highway robbery as Charter House has launched their so called "Ghana Music Awards " which should be rightly dubbed "The Charter House Music Awards ", as it seeks to honor artiste that are loyal and of personal interest to Charter House.

Seeing the nominations list built a cloud of sorrow around me, as I wondered why a top entertainment stakeholder would act with a dirty  mixture of illiteracy and contempt.

Forgetting that two wrongs don't make a right, they nominated Guru for artiste of the year, in order to appease and shut him up for the earlier injustice done him, which was spear headed by the legendary gigolo Nii Aryee Tagoe.

Another unfortunate oversight was the fact that female artistes were conspicuously missing from the nominations, with artiste like Efya grabbing 5 nominations at the world music awards and Kaakie being nominated by channel O.

Wasn't this reason enough to earn a nomination, or is charter house still stuck on the archaic mentality that women must be missing in the scheme of affairs.

Nominating Joey B in the "New artiste of the year" category was laughable. Joey b as an artiste has been operating on a large scale for a little over 3 years with hit tracks such as "Strawberry Ginger " and so on. Was the nomination attracted by the hype of his "Tonga" single, which goes completely against Charter House's self righteous profanity clause?, the same clause under which R2BEES' monster hit track "Agyeei" was disqualified.

This shows a display of inconsistency on the path of charter house . This category  is invalid as all the nominees look like square pegs in round holes. As Storm Akwaboah is also an artistes who has been around for quite a while in the industry.

The topic of KUMI GUITAR, is one that is an eyesore.  How can an artist gain his first spotlight on a nomination list of such a "prestigious" award scheme?

Kumi Guitar may be a great musician, it is true that his manager Mark Okraku Mantey is on the nomination board  but he doesn't deserve a single nomination this year, as he has not toiled enough in the aspects of media promotion.  How many Kumi Guitar songs have received massive air play and acknowledgements?

None! However chart topping  artiste like Bisa Kdei, Kofi Kinaata and MzVee were also conspicuously evaded by charter house. Where then is the reward in toiling to make great music and toil to promote your brand if you'll be robbed in the end?

The gospel artiste of the year category seemed like a complete joke as Sonnie Badu and O.J were the only valid artiste on this list, Sonnie Badu however had no releases in the year under review . Cwesi Oteng whose "Winner" track was in wide circulation was snubbed alongside other deserving musicians like Josh Laryea, Danny Nettey and DSP Kofi Sarpong.

The awards scheme seriously needs some education and revisions as some blunders have been repeated.

Ezzay was nominated for Hiplife/Hip hop artist of the year, whereas all songs released by her in the year under review were either afro pop or dance hall.

These same mistake was repeated for R2BEEs who had their afro pop track nominated for Hi-life song of the year. Both the hi-life song and hi-life artiste category are incomplete as okyeame Kwame's monster hit "woara " was ignored, this is inexcusable . Guru's nomination for producer of the year is soo baffling, even his management can't explain it. Sonnie Badu's "Wonder God " which was released in 2012 was also spotted on list of nominee, this baffled him and his management.

Probably charter house is now into the miracle business or are too incompetent to hand the affairs of musicians in Ghana or elsewhere.

The only recognizable names on the female vocalist of the year, were those of Efya and Gena west.  Names like Kaakie and Irene Logan were also exempted.

Where is the prestige of the scheme if an important category such as "song of the year" had up to 10 nominees?

In order to to silence Shatta Wale and appease him for licking their boots, he has been nominated for various categories including Producer of The year.

The album of the year category is another plain joke, as it exclude R2BEES album and Manifest' Apae, meanwhile a certain Joyce Blessing was nominated.

These award scheme is a joke, prepared for Friends, Family and Boot Lickers and pay pals of charter house.  How can D2 be nominated for group of the year while VIP was snubbed, The height of the joke was when I saw Guru featuring liwin on the list of collaboration of the year.

How Samini's scatter badmind got nominated for dancehall song of the year remains a mystery as the said song is a diss track.

D2s Fever and pope skinny's Hotcake which are plainly afro pop were put up for Dancehall song of the year, by virtue of Shatta Wale's appearance. The same Shatta wale that was outlawed until he stood up for his rights has been nominated 3 times in a single category.

Having said all these, I'll want to inquire what the criteria for nomination is and what level of musical education panel members have. The robbery wouldn't stop if charter house remains the sole organizer of a music awards.
