The award-winning Alabaster Box is an all-male gospel a-cappella music quartet based in Ghana, conceived, founded and led by Samuel Narku Dowuona, a journalist and musician, in 1995. Other members of the group are Gideon Allotey - bass, Horst Ayub - falseto and Michael Allotey - tenor.

The group was formed out of a passion to unearth and make use of purely natural talents to the fullest to make complete music in praise to God, other than the engagement of artificial music instruments.
This passion is based on the Biblical scripture which says “God has anointed praise in the MOUTHS of babes and sucklings to stop the enemy”.

“As per our motto - Making positive impact through uniqueness - the vision really is to challenge the African youth, Christian and non-Christian, to see in themselves a God-given potential by which they could make positive impact on their generation if only they could let go of themselves on the altar for God.
“Just as the Biblical alabaster box was broken and the fragrance filled the entire atmosphere, we believe we have been broken for Jesus and mandated to help others come to the point of brokenness for God, humility and love towards men.”

Alabaster Box specializes in a-cappella music, but precisely a unique kind of a-cappella which combines purely mouth-made sounds of African indigenous instruments with African harmonies and melodies to make sweet music. The group has coined the name “AFROPPELLA” for its kind of music, meaning “a-cappella made in Africa”.

The box, as the group is affectionately called, has over the past 13 years endeared itself to both local and international audiences with its captivating music, which usually sends many an audience wondering if the group uses instruments.

You would have to be on another planet perhaps Jupiter to not have heard of Edem. You would have to be blind to have never seen him and you definitely have to be either lame or old as hell to have never heard “Keva”. The Volta region natives are taking over the country. Watch Video: Teva (Bougez) by Edem feat. Kwaw Kese, Ruth & Sakodie

Edem is steadily making his way to the top of the rap scene in Ghana, and he is about to let the world know what the Ewes too are about.

Rumours tricked in that Hammer was in the music laboratory for long and that he was cooking up something big. And then Ghana Music.com premiered the video of his single of “Keva” and the rest is internet history as he has erupted without warning.

It’s hard for any independent artist to touch him now with only a single that he received.

After helping everyone from Obrafour to Kwaw Kese settle on people’s lips, Hammer of the Last 2 is bored and needs new challenges and wants to start from scratch.

Hammer hopes to invade and flood the music market with videos of the album hopefully this month.
Hammer’s focal point with Edem is to make a bigger history than what he did with Obrafour, Tinny and Kwaw Kese as he has sweated profusely for 2 years on “The Volta Regime”.

Edem’s Ewe vocal style relies heavily on his accent being distinctive and unique in the rap game as he is heavily backed by Hammer who produced the whole hiphop album and it is Hammer infectious beats that make the album come alive.

Hammer doesn’t mess with artists that are just artists; he messes with superstars and has been able to turn Edem into a hiphop rapper and singer.

Hammer’s music friends King Ayisoba, Sarkodie, Ruth, Samini and last 2 soldiers Tinny, Kwaw Kese and Obrafour and Ayisoba voices were heard on the 19 track album.

An exciting entertainment magazine that seeks to not only bridge the gap in African music but also provide a platform for African artistes to collaborate as showbiz people is set to hit the screens soon.

Beatwaves chanced upon the crew in town putting finishing touches to the programme with the shooting of a music video for the young duo 5five, last week.

Each week, two or more artistes would be introduced to each other on 30Minitz to collaborate in a song, for which a music video would be shot.

Television audiences would get the chance to listen to the songs and see the video making processes as they also get to know more about the artistes.

The collaboration would not be limited to Ghanaian musicians, as some of the continent’s exciting artistes notably from Nigeria and South Africa have been invited to be part of the show.

With music production by two of Ghana’s most skillful sound engineers, Jay-So of Skillion Records and Oteng, the show is produced by highly creative Sadique, formally of Allo Tigo fame on Metro TV and directed by award-winning music video director Ezekiel Tetteh (Stip) of Solid Multimedia.

Ghana Music.com is back with another interview from a highlife celebrity. After creating a massive buzz with Amakye Dede’s band as a drummer in the late 90s but now settled in the states we are proud to present an in-depth interview with Ghana Boy.

Ghana Boy is wonderful person. His verbal wordplay, clever love lyrics, dancing moves, and wicked delivery on the drums have always set him apart as one of Ghana’s most talented musicians.

The sixteen tracks deep, album features cameo from only Daasebre Dwamena and his own blood children.

Ghana Boy’s work is been managed by Banibest Music Production and they could be reached on 001 773 837 6523 or 001 773 615 7798 for more business deals or concerts.

In this exclusive and long interview we discuss his latest album “Baa Ko Pe,” his reggae band, his association with Amakye Dede and his music brother, Daasebre Dwamena and much more in this detailed, exclusive interview.

Ghana Music.com: Who is Ghana Boy?
Ghana Boy: I played with Amakye Dede’s band ten years ago and came to the states in 1997. I started in Ghana as a drummer. I’m a dancer too so I tutor in Ahenfie Kete. I have improved musically and have been able to form my own reggae band.

Ghana Music.com: There is no way you can go free without telling us the story behind the name Ghana Boy?
Ghana Boy: My dad was called Ghana Boy. He owned the best provision store in the last 1950s in Koforidua. Anytime people looked for me, they said Ghana Boy’s son, Ataa. But my real name is Daniel K. Yeboah and my twin brother is Daniel Kofi Yeboah.

Ghana Music.com: Who are some of your music influences?
Ghana Boy: Daasebre Dwamena and the old school musicians are C. K. Mann, Lumba and Amakye Dede.

Ghana Music.com: Title of the album?
Ghana Boy: It’s simply “Baa Ko Pe”. I have not really decided on the title of the album yet but it will surely draw people’s attention.

Ghana Music.com: Define the album?
Ghana Boy: It’s got a highlife style but am into live music.

Ghana Music.com: How many songs did you put on the album?
Ghana Boy: I have sixteen songs.

Ghana Music.com: Which engineers laid beats for the album?
Ghana Boy: Appietus, Jay Q and Moro.

Ghana Music.com: And which artistes added their voices to the album?
Ghana Boy: Jumpy, Validy and amazingly I included my children on the album known as Akua Ghana, Sam Ghana and Dan Ghanaboy.

Ghana Music.com: What’s the content of the album?
Ghana Boy: Messages, advices and more surprises that you have to buy the album to have a feel of.

Ghana Music.com: You earlier on mentioned that you have a reggae band. Fill us in?
Ghana Boy: It’s called Hydro Reggae Band and it’s a side business. But we mainly rock universities and any time we play we have a huge appearance by people.

Ghana Music.com: What’s it about Ghana Boy and Daasebre Dwamena and Amakye Dede?
Ghana Boy: Daasebre Dwamena is my brother and Amakye Dede is like my senior brother. They have all been instrumental in my music journey and will never forget about them.

Ghana Music.com: Any major shows yet?
Ghana Boy: I have played for a couple of universities and performed at a Kente Show organized by the Ghanaian community here.

Ghana Music.com: Please round up the interview?
Ghana Boy: Ghanaian music lovers should out for Ghana Boy because am coming out big and I won’t disappoint any of them.

Nii Addo Quaynor, who is known in showbiz as ‘Aletse Tinny’ has categorically stated that he would continue to compose his songs in his mother tongue - the Ga language. Watch video: Kaa Bu Ame by Tinny

In an interview with The Statesman yesterday at his residence, Tinny stressed, “My current album “Kaa Bu Ame”, is doing very well in the market, and I am not surprised at all because that piece was really the result of hard work”.

His knack at making Ga (a local language he usually sings and raps in), coupled with his distinct style and rhyming songs, have made him very popular across Africa won the respect of the native Ga speaking people.

He compared Ghanaian and Nigerian songs and said most of the Ghanaian songs are sung in the local languages. On the issue of managing artistes, he lamented, “You don’t find people here who are ready to manage or promote musicians and so at the end of the day you find an artiste promoting and managing his or her song, which to me is very challenging”.

As to whether he intended shifting his lyrics into the English into the English language, Tiny retorted, “No. I will be a Ga artiste till I die, because I really express myself better in the Ga language than any other language; and that does not mean I can’t speak English.”

To sexy Tinny, paying of ‘payola’ (money allegedly paid to DJs before they play one’s song on air) is not right because he believes in hard work “If you do a good job, I don’t think there will be the need for paying ‘payola’”.

Touching on his collaboration with Ja Rule, Tinny stressed that the single album was ready but it was on Maddhaus’ label and said since he was no more with them, he could not tell when and where they would be releasing it.

In a more relaxed mood and with a smile, he said, “I find the music industry interesting”, in response to a question posed to him by this paper.

Music producer, Isaac Abeiku Aidoo, popular known as Goodies, being tried by an Accra Circuit Court for alleged narcotic offences, resurfaced in court on Friday after the trial judge expressed concern about the prosecution’s failure to produce him in court on two consecutive times.

However, trial of the case could not go on because the Chief State Attorney, Valerie Amartey, who has taken over the prosecution from the police also failed to show up in court yesterday.

When the case was called at about 10:30am, a police prosecutor, ASP Kofi Blagodzi, informed the court, presided over by Mr Iddrisu Mahamudu, that the Chief State Attorney had been taken ill, and prayed the court for a short adjourned date.

The court then adjourned roceedings to September 12.

Aidoo, Chief Executive of Goodies Music Production is facing two counts of attempted exportation and possessing narcotic drugs, without lawful authority.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

He was first put before the Greater Accra Regional Tribunal last April, but the case was transferred to the Circuit Court last month on the orders of the Chief Justice.

On August 25, Mr Mahamudu expressed doubts as to whether Aidoo was indeed in prison custody at the Nsawam Medium Prisons, because he had failed to appear before him on two occasions on the grounds of ill-health.

He said that the prosecution failed on those occasions to produce any evidence to prove that Aidoo had been ill and warned that he would visit the Nsawam Prisons one day to personally verify if Aidoo was there.

Aidoo was arrested on suspicion of possessing narcotic drugs at the Kotoka International Airport on April 23 while going through departure formalities to board a flight to London.

He was subsequently taken to the 37 Military Hospital by officials of the Narcotics Control Board for an x-ray examination which revealed that he had foreign materials in his stomach.

Aidoo was put under surveillance during which he allegedly expelled 80 pellets of whitish substances suspected to be cocaine. The substances proved positive of cocaine upon testing by the Ghana Standards Board.

The prosecution had told the tribunal at its first hearing on April 25, that during police interrogation, Aidoo said Abdul Haid, a musician resident at East Legon, Accra, gave him the drugs to be delivered to one Willie in London for a fee of $3,000.

Haid has not been located by the police.

The President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Mrs. Diana Hopeson has called on all Musicians in the country to remain neutral in the area of politics.

According to her, Musicians have the right to join any political party they prefer but since they are role models and their supporters are not from the same political party, it is prudent that they do not show their party affiliation.

The MUSIGA president said this at an awards ceremony to honour distinguished musicians from the Central Region who have contributed immensely to the music industry in the country.

The event took place at the forecourt of the Cape Coast Castle and was attended by the general public, musicians, traditional rulers and lovers of music.

She disclosed that MUSIGA is going to organize a festival starting from the Western Region, where musical instruments and works from the ten regions in Ghana would be on display.

Mrs. Hopeson also donated a computer and its accessories to the Union. She praised the Central Regional Minister for his contribution towards the music industry, “I would like to thank the Regional Minister, Hon. Nana Ato Arthur for giving the Union an Office,” she said.

MUSIGA in collaboration with Premier Productions is also going to embark on musical peace concerts towards the elections in all the regional capitals and other district capitals in the country.

The chairman of the Central Regional branch of MUSIGA, Mr J.V.Owusu bemoaned the attitude of companies and super markets that were served with letters for support but refused totally to give a penny. He called on companies and Super markets to support the Union next time around.

Distinguished musicians who were awarded included; C.K.Mann, Paapa Yankson, A.B.Crentsil, Randy Nunoo, Ebo Taylor, Nat Brew, Isaiah Ampong, Kwaw Kese and Slim Buster.

There were performances from A.B.Crentsil, C.K.Mann, Alex Ankrah, King Sapi, Mary Danso, Might I am, Jamrra and Dara and St Cecilia Choir from Abura.
