After making a proud showing with his debut album, Sarkodie has become a household name in Ghana. “I started just like any normal artiste, hopping from studio to studio, producer to producer, set backs, challenges and finally my big moment came. It took one year… it was sudden”, Sarkodie said on the live Thursday night ‘Good Evening Ghana ‘show on Metro TV.

“My interest in hiplife came after hearing Obrafour’s songs when I was just a school boy in Achimota Primary School. I use to do battles... Lyrical battles on the streets and even at that tender age people really liked what I had”, he told the host, Paul Adom Okyere. Listen to One Time For Your Mind by Sarkodie.

Sarkodie is arguably Ghana’s youngest most prolific rapper with his style of flow and lyrical content his biggest asset. His initial appearance was a few years ago where he got live studio interview with Dr Duncan on Adom FM but even at that time he did not have a known single to his name.

His first real showing was when he featured on Ayigbe Edem’s debut single - "U Dey Craze"  and at once his skill and expressive agility spread across the whole place. Then he releases his first single “Baby” which became an instant hit. Watch Babe by Sarkodie feat. Mugeez. He followed with his album a few months after that and it was as if everybody had been expecting his coming for so long. The album managed to pull out five hit songs, a thing which has not been seen before in Ghana’s music arena.

“Sarkodie is a great rapper and he got skill. We believe he is going to take the world by storm. Konvict Music is happy to have him and we believe he will fit in the vision”, Sway told Ghana Music.com in an interview earlier this year. Sarkodie’s quality was justified after Akon’s Konvict Music signed him on their label, making him the first hiplife artiste to be signed on a top class international record label.

The young man from Tema (TM) took home five awards at the Ghana Music Awards (GMA) including the Artiste of the year and discovery of the year. He was initially nominated for 8. “I was shocked when I was announced as the artiste of the year. During the event I heard a lot of people screaming my name so there was pressure on me to win more”, he noted.

“I am my own role model… I see myself… and I dream… I want to be a legend. I want to be a historic Ghana musician”, he said. On his way up, he has worked with sound engineers like Hammer, Quick Action, Kewah, Nana Fynn, 2Tuff ,Jayso. He quotes, "I like to work with beat makers who don't just play the beats but create them."

“I am currently in the studio putting my new album together and it will be ready soon”, he disclosed. When he starts his tour with the big names in American music after the world cup, he can only be hoping that the music gods will continue to be with him just the way they have been in the past one year.

Then Paul asked him… do you have a wife? He answered “no”… do you have a girlfriend? And again he said “no”. A lot of people might not believe this just as Paul openly said “I don’t believe this”.
