History will be made at the Accra International Conference Centre on April 10, 2010, when for the first time, someone who has never released a song or an album, picks an award at the eleventh edition of the prestigious Ghana Music Awards.
The person, who is widely expected to set that record in the history of the Ghana Music Awards, is the multi-talented instrumentalist, lyricist and silky voiced Kwabena Akwaboah Jnr. He is expected to pick the award for Song Writer of the Year.
The relatively unknown Mr. Akwaboah wrote Becca's “Daa Ke Daa” which became an instant hit and was used as the sound track for Sparrow Productions' movie 'Scorned'.
He is also credited for writing 'Ayeyi Ndwom' by DSP Kofi Sarpong, which has received several nominations in this year's awards.
Several music enthusiasts who spoke to BEATWAVES confessed that, although the Song Writer of the Year category is very competitive, considering the other nominees, Mr. Akwaboah Jnr will most likely take home the award.
Meanwhile, BEATWAVES has leant from a reliable source that the artiste is no longer going to remain behind the scenes. He is set to release a single titled l Love, which will hit the airwaves and market soon.
Indeed, music pundits and industry players, who have had the privilege to listen to the yet-to-be-released single, described it as an instant hit.
To some music lovers, the multi-talented Akwaboah is most likely to become the next Kojo Antwi, considering his vocal and lyrical abilities. Following the footsteps of internationally acclaimed artistes like Kerry Wilson, Lady Gaga, among others, Kwabena Akwaboah Jnr. who has helped several musicians to make it big in the industry, believes the time has come for him to show the world the kind of stuff he is made of, thus his up-coming single.
