It was all fun and exciting when the MTN Ghana Music Awards train stopped in the twin city of Sekondi-Takoradi last week.

The music jam was in celebration of Ghana's 53rd independence and the centenary celebration of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the illustrious son of the region who championed the struggle for Ghana's liberty from Great Britain in 1957. There was not a dull moment on stage the whole time and the audience made the most of the occasion although some artistes could not make it for one reason or another.

Ohemaa Mercy's vivacious performance can only be described as electrifying from beginning to the end.

She took the crowd with her on a heavenly journey that set a tough standard, but all the other artistes appeared prepared to compete.

The lady deserves her nominations for Artiste of the Year, Gospel Artiste and Gospel Song of the Year for 'Wo Be Ye Kese'.

Following closely on her heels was DSP Kofi Sarpong who reminded all one more time of why his song 'Ayeyi Ndwom' is nominated for Gospel Song of the Year and himself for the Gospel Artistes and Discovery of the Year categories respectively.

Also highlighting the jam for many was Eazzy Baby, who completely took over the huge stage with ease.

With renditions from her collaboration on Tinny's Ringtone remix and her songs 'Wengeze' and 'Bo Wo Nsem Ma Me', Eazzy has established herself a promising female artiste. She is nominated in the Discovery of the Year category.

Other performances came from Kofi B, who was excellent with the live band performances. Kofi B is nominated in the Highlife Artiste category and his song 'Afia Donkor' is nominated for Highlife Song of the Year.

Tema-based R2Bees were thrilling although one would have wished for a little more coordination on stage.

The group Confi, Okyeame Kwame and Castro all ensured that the memory of Saturday's jam will remain in the minds of people in the twin city for a long time to come.

Meanwhile, the public categories have been published for voting. The organisers conducted the selection committee votes in Takoradi on the same day as the jam.

To vote in the Artiste of the Year category, all one needs to do is to text the name of their favourite to short code 1767 on MTN and any other network.

For all other categories up for public voting, all one needs to do is to send the code of that category to the short code 1763 on MTN and any other network.

The countdown series to the 11th edition of the MTN Ghana Music Awards shows on GTV on Monday's at 9:30pm.
