Paapa Wastik fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of the album "UNITY FOR AFRICA". After the success of his prior albums, "MAMA AFRICA"- released in Ghana in 2003 and "THANKS AND PRAISE"-partially recorded in Bob Marley's legendary Tuff Gong studios in Jamaica and released in the US in 2007 and in Ghana the following year, his fans anticipated the conscious fire of this third album.
'Thanks and Praise' received critical acclaim with the hit song 'Makuma Mu Hema'(Queen of My Heart) being nominated for the prestigious 'Reggae Song of the Year' at the GHANA MUSIC AWARDS in 2009. "Thanks and Praise" also included the single hits ' Fire Burn Dem' featuring Lutan Fyah, and 'Home Sweet Home' which enjoyed much air play on Ghana's national TV and radio.
"UNITY FOR AFRICA" features a unique mix of what the artist has coined 'Roots-Life' music. A distinct music genre that infuses the rhythmic and vocal styling of Reggae, Blues, afro-jazz soca and Ghana's High-Life music. Which imparts an uplifting message and social commentary.
UNITY FOR AFRICA, was officially launched at the 'Arts on Third Festival" in Mt.Vernon, New York in September 2012. The production of the album was a trans-continental project, which included recording in Jamaica at Steven Stanley Studios, where Paapa Wastik teamed up with Jamaican Reggae star Jah Mason for the title track 'Unity For Africa'. Some of the tracks were produced in France at and in Ghana at 420 Studios.
When interviewed about his inspiration for the title track and the album, Paapa Wastik commented that "the inspiration spoke to me when I meditate on the vision that I beloved fathers Kwame Nkrumah and H.I.M. Haile Selassie I had in creating the OAU ( Organization of African Unity) "..."looking at how my brothers and sisters can not easily travel nor trade amongst themselves because of arbitrary political boarders and tribal wars that are taking place in some of the countries in our motherland...it is devastating ..African unity is a social issue that is deeply pressing in my heart, that is why I was inspired to make music that speaks to its existence, when I speak of African unity I am speaking of those at home in Africa and those abroad."
Prior to the album release the hit singles 'SERIOUS TIMES', 'BABYLON SYSTEM' and 'YEN TEM' have been in current rotation on Ghana's national television and radio stations, as well as other world-wide social media. These tracks are complimented by music videos.
