A representative from the Ghana DJ Awards has emphasized that all plaques presented at the first Ghana DJ Awards ceremony held on February 15 at the historic National Theatre of Ghana were dummies and “that was no mistake but part of the GDAs tradition”.

Esinam Klutse, event coordinator at the Ghana DJ Awards, explained that what the DJs received on the night, just like the BET Awards, were dummies which were used for ceremonial purposes and the winners were not allowed to take them home.

“After the awards, the plaques are returned for winner’s names to be proudly etched on them before they are presented. The engraving process, however, takes some time”, she further explained.

“Winners are not known till they are announced. It’s therefore impossible to have their names engraved a month or more ahead of the show”, she stressed.

Contrary to rumors that some winners have already received their plaques, Esinam refuted and stressed that the plaques will be presented to winners from April 8 and that no presentations have yet been made aside the ultimate prize to the DJ of the Year.

It was added that winners or their representatives who received on their behalf were duly informed that the plaques would be presented to them after their names had been engraved on them.

The Ghana DJ Awards is the first national DJ Awards on the African continent that honors DJs for their contribution to the development of the music industry.

The first edition drew nominees from Nigeria, South Africa, Canada, USA and the UK who have promoted music made in Ghana Internationally.
