    Two Deputies appointed for MUSIGA Reggae Department

    The President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has appointed two more Directors for the Reggae Department of the Union. The two are Mr. Salim Hannawi (a.k.a. Commander ‘H’ of BeatCAMP fame), an I.T. Systems Integrator, Multi Media Consultant, TV Producer, Sound Engineer, ElectronicMusic Composer, and an Entrepreneur as 1st Deputy Director; and Fred Van Dyke leader of the erstwhile reggae group Kente who were one of the leading reggae groups of the 80s and 90s as 2nd Deputy Director respectively.

    The new officers are to support the current Director of Reggae of the Union Ras Caleb Appiah-Levi to ensure that the Reggae Department achieves the aims and objectives it has set for itself.

    The MUSIGA President Bice Osei Kuffour a.k.a. Obour made the appointments in a meeting on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 with members of MUSIGA’s Reggae Department and Reggae Foundation.

    He commended the reggae musicians for their unflinching support for the union and their dedication to the cause of MUSIGA.

    He assured them of his administration’s support for their initiatives and urged them to strive to improve on their personal brands as well as the brand of the Reggae Department and the Reggae Foundation.

    On their part, the Reggae musicians commended the President for the opportunity to interact with them.

    The meeting agreed on a number of priority areas for the Reggae Department to focus on. These included an annual Reggae Music Month, regular nationwideevents, training for the members in current music business practices and to champion the evolution in royalty collection to the benefit of all members of the Musicians Union of Ghana.

    Present at the meeting were reggae artistes; Blakk Rasta, Ras Kuuku, Jah Amber, Togbe Ghana, Na U, Dia Alpha, King Benjah, Bob Hagan (of Conscious Generation) and Shasha Marley among others.

    Also present were the Union’s National Organizer Chizzy Wailer; Special Projects Director Rev Fiifi Agyarkwah Khan; Special Events Coordinator Georgina Bimpong; Greater-Accra Regional Chairman Tic Tac (Nana Kwaku Dua), and the Administrator Ahuma Bosco Ocansey aka Daddy Bosco who pledged their support for the Reggae Department and its appointees.
