Telecommunications giant, MTN has lauded its ambassador, Emmanuel Samini, for the success he chalked at this year’s edition of the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) sponsored by Zain.

The father of one returned home last Monday October 12 from Kenya, where this year’s MAMA’s was held, with the Best African Performer Of The Year trophy. This he won due to his startling performances on African stages, thrilling hordes of fans in the process.

On Thursday, Samini presented the award to the management of the ‘Yello’ family in a short ceremony at the MTN offices at Ridge, in Accra. This was to show his appreciation for MTN’s support over the years.

Receiving the trophy, Chief Executive Officer of MTN, Mr. Brett Goschen, congratulated Samini on behalf of the company for his outstanding achievements so far saying he truly deserved the MAMA award.

Wishing him well, Mr. Brett hoped that Samini would continue to notch up more success in the future. “We at MTN always admire Samini for the tremendous energy and creativity that he exudes in his music performances. We are extremely proud to be associated with him.

Samini really reflects the values that MTN holds; leadership, energizing relationships, integrity and the last of the can do spirit. Samini has buckets of can dos,” he added.

Samini then expressed his gratitude to MTN saying he couldn’t have come that far without them. “There are people who thought that we could not come this far after doing over 50 collaborations with other artistes and made them hit and lead the charts.

They thought that we could not make albums. But here we are today, receiving multiple awards and we keep achieving every time.

I would like to say that it is also due to the fact that at this stage of my career, the number one company in the country, MTN, came to support me. When you mention MTN you mention Samini, and when you mention Samini you mention MTN. So it is a challenge to me to be out there to represent MTN’s outstanding performances to produce hits”.

He revealed that it was difficult when he was re-branding himself as Samini. He thus gave thanks to MTN as that was the exact time they set in to help. After dedicating the MAMA award to his mom, he said it was also for MTN and his fans. Samini then announced that he would begin a nationwide tour with a big concert on November 14, 2009 at Kumasi.

Mr. George Andah, Chief Marketing Officer, assured the public that MTN would make the Samini nationwide tour happen, saying that November 14 is a special day as Ghana's Black Stars will play a match the following day in Kumasi. “Samini will hit Kumasi with a big bang”.

MTN’s relationship with Samini, Mr. Andah said, had paid off in the hit jingle and TV adverts Samini helped MTN to deliver, including the laurels he kept winning across the world. “We are truly proud of our relationship with Samini”, he concluded.
