    MUSIGA greets Mills, Musicians

    Photo: Ghana Music.comPresident of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Diana Hopeson, on behalf of the union’s national executive committee has wished all members and Ghanaian musicians in general a happy and prosperous new year.

    In a statement issued in Accra on Tuesday, the union as well congratulated musicians on their immense contributions to the just ended 2008 presidential and parliamentary elections. It went on to task Ghanaian musicians to work hard and bring creativity and diversity into the music industry so they could rub shoulders with their likes on the international scene.

    The statement added that the union was aware of the absence of royalty distribution within the past year; as such it was going to undertake diligent measures to rectify the situation.

    “In the absence of royalty distribution within the past year, we acknowledge the financial constraints many of you have gone through and we are working effortlessly to ensure that this year proves otherwise,” it said.

    It stated further: “As a musicians’ union, we shall work to ensure the continuous provision of quality and professional services to enhance the recreational life and unleash the complete potentials of all Ghanaians.”

    The union used the opportunity to wish all it partners, donors, sponsors, industry practitioners and friends a happy and prosperous new year.

    In related development the union has congratulated President John Evans Atta Mills on his electoral victory saying it is the will of God.

    "We are excited that after numerous days of campaigning and two elections you have emerged as our president. This is the doing of God," said a statement signed by Mrs Diana Hopeson, President of MUSIGA.

    MUSIGA also congratulated the security services, religious leaders, civil society groups, the media and musicians for ensuring a peaceful and successful election.

    "The Union is grateful to all Ghanaians for the maturity and tolerance exhibited during the period, which has now yielded peace for the entire citizens of the nation," it concluded.
