    Joe Mettle's music group wins VGMA Peace song contest

    Gospel music group New Generation Ministers which features ace singer Joe Mettle have won the GHC 10,000.00 at stake in the VGMA Peace Song Contest for their song Peace and Harmony on Saturday at the Accra International Conference Centre.

    The group placed first out of over 200 entries submitted to the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), organizers of the Peace song contest.

    The group received a dummy cheque for an amount of GHC 10,000 from Midland Savings and Loans, sponsors of the contest at the VGMA on Saturday night. An elated Joe Mettle expressed his appreciation for the honor done them in awarding them the first prize for the contest.

    >The chairman of the Peace song contest board Bessa Simons, 1 st Vice President of MUSIGA says the board went through all the songs and assessed the songs based on musical composition, message and quality of recording. He said there were a number of good songs vying for the top prize but the board finally settled on the winning song due to the message, song composition and the quality of the recording.

    The C.E.O of Midland Savings and Loans Michael Adjovu expressed the commitment of Midland to the development of the music industry in Ghana in particular and the Creative Arts in general.

    Midland has been sponsoring prizes for the winners of various categories for the VGMAs as part of its support for the development of the music industry with the most recent one being the car prize to No Tribe for winning the Gospel of the Year Artiste award at the 2015 VGMAs.

    Meanwhile Midland also sponsored the Music for Development category of the VGMAs with a GHC 5,000.00 prize to the winner Gasmilla for his song International Fisherman.

    The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts also sponsored the Lifetime Achievement award which was won by veteran highlife artiste A.B Crentsil.

    The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu Adjare commended A.B Crentsil for his contribution to the music industry in Ghana.

    The Peace song contest was supported by STAR-Ghana as part of the MUSIGA’s Election 2016 project dubbed Using Music as a Tool for National Cohesion.
