    Kora Awards voting starts

    Voting for the prestigious KORA All Africa Music Awards begins January 24, 2009. A statement from nominee Kerunen's office says voting will commence today, January 24 with live transmission of the finalists' concerts on UBC Television and on all CFI (Canal France International) partners around the world.

    Kerunen's album ‘Nimefika’ was nominated for best artist or group on the continent, while her song ‘Ngom’, from the same album was nominated for artiste of the continent.

    The awards ceremony is slated for April 11, 2009 in Lagos, Nigeria.

    Founded in 1994 by Ernest Adjovi, who now serves as Executive Producer, Kora awards was first broadcast in 1996 to 45 countries. Today KORA is the only non-sporting event broadcast live in Africa, Europe and Asia

    Currently 21 awards are given, including the prestigious Life Time Achievement Award. Kora's objectives are, firstly, to promote African artistes and their works internationally, and subsequently to unite Africa and the Diaspora through music and the arts.

    The KORA Awards undoubtedly constitutes a tremendous method of promotion for African artistes.  KORA 2001 was freely telecast live to an estimated 397 million television viewers.
