AratheJay, the Tema-based new-age artist, was awarded his first career award at the 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards. He won the “Best Music Video” award honouring the visual for “Put Am On God,” the centrepiece of his debut album “The Odyssey”.
The video, directed by David Duncan, was widely celebrated upon its release in October 2025 as one of the most accomplished visual productions to accompany a Ghanaian debut release in recent memory. The win carries with it a weight beyond the category itself.
Twelve months prior, at the 26th edition of the ceremony, AratheJay had been nominated for “New Artiste of the Year”, a category that many in the industry believed he was poised to win. Unfortunately, he left without a plaque.
The song from which the winning video draws its power is not incidental to the story of its creator. “Put Am On God,” produced by BillyDray and Nii Quaye, is an act of creative autobiography: a declaration of faith made at the intersection of doubt and ambition. It blends of Twi, Pidgin, and English that speaks simultaneously to the streets of Ghana and to a generation of young Africans navigating the space between where they are and where they are determined to be. It sits at track seven of a seventeen-track project that, by the time of the awards ceremony, had accumulated close to 60 million streams across Spotify, Apple Music, Audiomack, and YouTube Music.
“The Odyssey”, released through Almighty Records and Mass Appeal Records, is the second chapter of AratheJay’s long-form conceptual project, the “Finding Nimo Series”, a narrative arc that began with his debut EP, “The Capsule”. Where “The Capsule” introduced him as a curious observer, “The Odyssey” presented a man reshaped by experience, a storyteller who had wrestled with uncertainty, loss, and faith, and emerged with something to say about all three. It achieved the biggest opening-day streams on Spotify for a Ghanaian male debut album in 2025 and became the first Ghanaian debut to place all 17 tracks simultaneously on the Ghana Apple
