So much for loyalty – Zylofon Music saga

We awoke to the headlines reading, “Bench warrant for the arrest of Nana Appiah Mensah(NAM 1) issued” and it seems signees under Zylofon Music have mixed reactions to the news.

Well, in case you are wondering who NAM 1 is, he is a Ghanaian business magnate with multiple establishments ranging from Zylofon Media Limited, Zylofon Music, Menzgold Ghana to several hotels and properties across Ghana and the world.

He was recently indicted by the Bank of Ghana for engaging in unauthorized gold business. However, that’s not our concern today.

He rocked the media and entertainment scene in Ghana way back in 2017 with the announcement of Ghana’s first ever well-structured and well-funded major record label, Zylofon Music, which saw several big names signed under such as Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, Kumi Guitar, Becca, Joyce Blessing among others.

As at that time, it was a really coveted honor to be enlisted amongst the signees of Zylofon Music which came along with a car, a house, and other incentives.

Unfortunately, barely 3 years down the line, when disaster loomed and this same ‘savior’ is now allegedly on the ‘wanted’ list of Interpol in over 192 countries, several of the signees, though they have not officially come out to terminate their contracts with Zylofon Music, have shown in subtle ways, signs of disengaging themselves with anything Zylofon.

First on the list is sensational songstress, Becca, who has reportedly deleted all photos of anything that has to do with Zylofon and NAM 1, from her Instagram page.

She was the same person beaming with smiles when being commended and signed on by NAM 1 some few years ago.

Bhim Nation Boss, Stonebwoy has also been confirmed to have reviewed his four-year contract down to one year which ends somewhere in March of this year.

He had equally been enjoying the envy and glory that came with the announcement of his signing that had its details undisclosed.

Joyce Blessing, the vibrant Gospel minstrel, also has had rumors about her circulate of her parting ways with the record label.

Though she has cleared the air in a video that the rumors are false, there is a saying that there is a bit of truth in every rumor.

She was the one to be most envied with her selection as being the only gospel act to be signed on to the label. Let’s just hope that her claims are a true reflection of her heart.

Shatta Wale, on the other hand, contrary to his sanguine and outspoken nature, has stayed silent throughout this episode. Well, let’s keep our fingers crossed.

‘Highlife Saviour’, Kumi Guitar, has rather openly uttered out that even if it’s a tiny heap of sand left with the Zylofon logo inscribed in it, he would stay right there and has nowhere to go.

He unapologetically stated this in an interview with Sammy Flex on Zylofon FM, on the 10th of January, 2019. That is loyalty. A virtue long lost in this generation.

I’m not here to criticize or judge anyone. I’m all in for positive energy and good vibes. I’m not in support of Nam 1 and neither am I against the decisions of some Zylofon Music signees terminating their contract.

I guess this wasn’t a ‘for better or for worse’ marriage vow from the onset when they were being signed on, so they are at liberty to do what pleases them.

However, I simply want to draw attention through this unfortunate circumstance, where the label has even admitted that they are in financial crisis, that we all could take a cue from this and admonish ourselves on the necessity of knowing that not all that glitters is gold and also, loyalty is a healthy trait we ought to develop in life.

It pays off in the long run. Find that person or entity you would want to do life with, investigate, probe, get to know whoever or whatever it is for yourself and if you decide to still engage, be loyal for life.

Stop hopping from one lawn to the other, you are human and not a grasshopper.
