About Teejay Mokeona

Neo Mack Thabiso Mokeona Jr. is a South African artist, songwriter, executive producer and entrepreneur. He has been the CEO/President of independent record label, Evolving Music Group. Born on the 19th of December, The inspiration to write music began in 2008, due to the likes of Lil Wayne, Usher, Eminem and his late big brother, Sifiso Terrance Mthembu (who, at the time, was a rapper). He officially became a writer/aspiring rapper in 2009. He graduated from the University of Johannesburg, in which he did a 3-year degree.

His journey really began in 2012, from a school ‘Create a Jingle Contest’ at Klipspringer Primary School, where students needed to create a jingle/rap talking about how littering was bad as part of a ‘Don’t litter’ campaign.

In 2016, he moved from aspiring rapper, to semi-pro rapper because the business started being taken off, such as much being released on streaming platforms, charging a performance fee and being featured on media outlets, such as his interview on Cliff Central on his 16th birthday. The single he was interviewed for is titled, ‘Ride or Die’ which featured Moz Kidd (Former Mabala Noise Artist) & Chelsy Popz.

He made his ‘TV Debut’ with a Massive Music News announcement by Anele Zondo to the release of his single, ‘Teenage Fever’. The Evolving partners created a clothing line which later became a record label backing Teejay Mokoena, as well as opening the opportunity for them to get into events. Whilst working on his Extended Play, ‘L2TK’ (short for Listen 2 The Kidd), his business partners were hard at work putting together the L2TK Tour (A self- funded mini concert tour created to help boost his popularity). They had two stops, Polokwane on 6 October 2018 and Nelspruit on 30 November 2018.

He began his studies at University of Johannesburg, and during COVID in August, he met up with Yanga Chief after meeting through Instagram to create DJ Speedsta’s ‘Chosen One’ which features him and Yanga Chief. The single was released on October 16, 2020 and opened up a lot of opportunities for him. In 2021, he released the radio charting single ‘Move’ as well as ‘Manyora’ (A song released on 12 November, the day of his brother’s burial).

In 2022, Teejay officially became the CEO/ President of the label he co-owns with his childhood friends, and one of the first decisions he made in charge was to sign Oxii Moron, an artist who has charted multiple times in different countries, making him one of the biggest R&B artists in South Africa, numbers wise.
