Artiste manager blames musicians for fall in album sales

Artiste manager Mark Antwi, has blamed musicians for being partly responsible for the low patronage of music albums.

According to him, for many years, only one or two songs which had already become popular on radio platforms had turned out to be the most interesting songs on most albums.

This has dwindled enthusiasm in fans to buy albums because those who buy them find that just one or two songs are interesting.  The rest are what he described as ‘trash’.

In recent years, music fans have stopped buying albums, as they rather enjoy downloading singles and transferring songs via USB and other means of sharing music files.

This he said has forced a number of local artistes from recording albums. Rather, they do singles and promote them to get shows. But the artiste manager thinks artistes should partly be blamed for what is happening.

“I say the earlier artistes are the reason people stopped buying albums because you buy an album only the radio hit song on the album turns out to be nice. The rest are trash and Ghanaians feel defrauded. So stopped buying albums however unappreciated,” he said.
