Ghanaian reggae musician David Oscar Dogbe has joined the growing chorus of voices calling for a united Africa amid ongoing conversations about attacks on African migrants in South Africa.
His latest song, Africa As One, seeks to revive the spirit of Pan-Africanism by encouraging a shared African identity, self-reliance, and collective development.
According to David Oscar, the song is both a celebration of African identity and a wake-up call for Africans to reconnect with the philosophies championed by the continent’s liberation leaders and Pan-African thinkers.
In a social media post shared ahead of the song’s release, David Oscar said modern Africa must “awaken to the voices of Pan-Africanists whose dreams centered on unity, dignity, self-reliance, and collective progress.”
He noted that despite Africa’s vast human and natural resources, divisions rooted in colonial borders, political conflicts, xenophobia, and economic dependency continue to hinder the continent’s progress.
“The message behind Africa as One is simple. Africa’s strength lies in unity. The voices of Pan-Africanists like Kwame Nkrumah, Thomas Sankara, Julius Nyerere, and Patrice Lumumba should continue to inspire us,” he stressed.
Pan-Africanism has long promoted African solidarity, political cooperation, economic independence, and cultural pride.
David Oscar also highlighted the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), headquartered in Accra, as one of the African Union’s flagship initiatives aimed at advancing economic integration and prosperity across the continent.
It is against this backdrop that David Oscar created Africa as One, a lyrical composition that underscores the importance of unity for a continent facing challenges that demand renewed solidarity.
