The Ghanaian music scene has seen lots of buzz lately and this can be greatly attributed to Twitter, Instagram and Facebook social media platforms. The social media sites has helped the growth of Ghanaian music especially in regards to artistes especially the upcoming artists; Adomaa, Worlasi B4Bonah, King Promise, Kwesi Arthur and many more.

Together with music sharing site Soundcloud and video sharing site YouTube, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook has played a huge role in the career of these artists. They have made connecting with fan bases quite easy with the existing artist being able to interact with their fan what they should expect next.

Artists including Sarkodie, Shatta Wale and M.anifest have used social media to much great effect. Most of these artists also use these sites as a first point of sale of their music as Apple Music’s iTunes links are shared on a daily basis with notable mention going to Joey B for his Darryl EP and Darkovibes for his Tomorrow single.

Social Media Week, the global media and marketing platform will be coming to Ghana for the first time. From September 11th to 15th, conversations will be steered around how our mode of interaction and new technology have evolved the way we think as well as how brands position themselves to join in this.

With this, social media has assumed an influential position in the career and activities of music artists. The contribution of social media can’t be understated as such the upcoming Social Media Week Accra should be event music artists and music industry persons should partake in.

The session for the music and arts will be on the 15th of September featuring a master class on content monetisation with emphasis on YouTube and Apple music with a mission to demystifying the commercialising of content online.

A musical concert will be held at the close of the day featuring heavyweight and upcoming music artists.

SMW is a worldwide industry platform and network done through global city-to-city conferences. The global footprint of the event is staggering – over 22 cities, 75,000 attendees and 10,000 speakers which translate into 250, 000 social media mentions annually with a reach of 600 million.

With global industry giants from a list that includes Facebook, Twitter, Google and Apple Music scheduled to speak, Social Media Week Accra is here to elevate Ghana’s connection to social media on a global scale. Accra will be connected.
