Ghanaian musician and songwriter Ben Brainy, who is signed to Hometown Records, has addressed the ongoing debate about the influence of Nigerian music on Ghanaian artists. Speaking on Starr FM with Mr. Kaxtro over the weekend, he dismissed claims that young Ghanaian musicians deliberately imitated the Nigerian sound. Instead, he attributed this perception to the heavy exposure of Nigerian songs in Ghana.

During the interview, Ben Brainy explained that the dominance of Nigerian music on Ghanaian airwaves has shaped listeners’ perceptions.

“Ghanaians have listened to too many Nigerian songs; that’s why they think the young ones coming up are copying the Nigerian style,” he said.

He emphasized that music is an evolving art form, and while artists may draw inspiration from different sources, that does not mean they lack originality.

Ben Brainy, promoting his latest song ‘Location,’ highlighted the need for Ghanaians to support local musicians just as they do with Nigerian artists.

“Music is a universal language. We get inspiration from different sounds, but that doesn’t mean we are copying. It’s just the way the industry is evolving,” he noted.

He also called on radio stations, DJs, and streaming platforms to promote more Ghanaian content and ensure a balance between local and foreign music.

Ben Brainy’s remarks on Starr FM with Mr. Kaxtro have sparked renewed discussions on the state of Ghana’s music industry. Many industry stakeholders believe that while Nigerian music has a strong influence globally, Ghanaian artists must receive the same level of promotion, airplay, and industry support to help them thrive.

As a rising star under Hometown Records, Ben Brainy remains dedicated to producing original Ghanaian music that resonates with local and international audiences. His message is clear: Ghanaian artists are not copying but evolving with global trends. It’s time to support and celebrate the homegrown talents shaping the future of Ghana’s music industry.
