Sound engineer Alex Adu Appiah popularly known as Juniorlexy of Lexy Records is encouraging Ghanaian artists to stick to Highlife music since it’s the only genre that represents and promotes the true cultural identity of Ghanaians.

He mentioned that it was quite worrying that the new crop of artists is swaying from Highlife music to other foreign sounds.

He mentioned that the development is not only a threat to Ghanaian music excelling on the global stage but equally stifling the originality of Ghanaians.

“Highlife is the only music style that represents Ghanaian identity and we must proudly uphold it as our heritage.

“Unfortunately, our young artistes think that doing highlife makes them ‘kolo’ but that is not the case.

” It is this same poor attitude towards Highlife that Nigerians are leading this Afrobeats takeover globally.

” If Ghana had boldly promoted highlife, the story would have been different. Highlife represents us as Ghanaians and there’s no way we can better be represented as a people if we do other music genres which is alien to us,” he said.
