Thousands troop to VGMA Experience Concert

The first ever edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Experience Concert unraveled at the Independence Square on 11th May and it attracted thousands of music lovers.

The event was graced with several top shots in the current Ghanaian music scene as well as upcoming talents that equally thrilled the audience.

The show kickstarted with some choruses from underground acts and began heating up with feminine vibes from AK Songstress and Adina delivering live band performances of their respective hits.

The Gospel fraternity were not left out as artistes such as Akesse Brempong, Empress Gifty Osei Adorye and Minister Kofy of TV3 Mentor fame led the mammoth crowd in a time of soul-inspiring praise and worship songs that set the tone for what would soon be a memorable and historic night.

The era of Ghana music’s 4S’- Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Samini and Shatta Wale soon came as the audience recited word for word each of their songs performed.

Stonebwoy brought in the prince and princess of BHIM Nation, Kelvynboy and OV, to perform their songs and they defied their inexperience in mainstream music to deliver energetic performances.

Sarkodie issued a selection of his old-time hits such as Borga, Azonto Fiesta, Baby among several others which undoubtedly confirmed his crown as the king of GH rap.

Despite an alleged tension between himself and Shatta Wale, he happily performed his hit track with the dancehall king, Megye Wo Girl, to the amusement of all and sundry- a probable statement to say that he is at ease with Shatta.

The recently enskinned chief, Samini, also thrilled fans with back to back deliveries of hit songs that he performed with a live band as well as delivering a freestyle on the 20th anniversary celebrations of the VGMA’s.

There were also performances from Kwesi Arthur who displayed a high level of maturity and showmanship when the security present had a subtle banter with elated fans jamming to his music.

Ace artistes, Tinny and Adane Best, brought back some nostalgia with several of their back in the day jams while Tinny introduced to the audience, a yet to be released love-themed song.

The moment they had all been waiting for arrived when Shatta Wale mounted stage with an arousing welcome and brief deliveries of a number of his songs.

Apparently, two thirds of the audience gathered were Shatta Movement fans who were there to support their icon and they undoubtedly represented in grand style.

Some artistes during their performances did well to recognize and hail Shatta Wale and the Shatta Movement in order to get the masses buy into their music and performances. The ‘Shatta atmosphere’ created was that powerful.

The event was said to be a major success and a true reflection of 20 years of music brewed in the Ghanaian pot.
