Ghanaian filmmaker, director and cinematographer. Isaac Adu Mensah professionally known as Yaw Skyface has expressed his dislike for the hypocrisy in the media when it comes to matters of nudity and censorship in our music videos.
In an exclusive 1 on 1 interview with Ghanamusic.com, the award-winning music video director muttered out, “Music videos just like any other thing is content.
If you are placing the nude scenes at the right places, I think it’s fine because the same people especially TV stations who criticise directors like myself show telenovelas with kissing scenes and ladies wearing bikinis.
I don’t even do kissing scenes in my music videos
He further recounted an incident with a client who wouldn’t have his music video aired on a particular TV station because it had nude scenes while he monitored that station to, later on, see that they aired videos of people at the beaches and in their bikinis.
I’m a storyteller, I can’t shoot a bedroom scene with the client wearing suit and tie. It depends on the place where you are revealing nudity”, he added.
His debut film, Door 2 Door, was met with mostly positive reviews upon its release in 2017 and he revealed that there will be coming.
Yaw was born in (Kwahu Abetifi, Eastern Region) and spent part of his childhood growing up in Takoradi until his family moved to Accra.
After graduating from Takoradi Polytechnic in 2008, he began working as a video director in 2009.
