Unlike other players in the gospel industry, Elizabeth Tiwa believes awards play very essential roles in their career.

According to her, awards are important because even when we go to heaven, God will reward each and every one of us according to our works.

She noted that even though what the gospel musicians are doing in this industry is not for men but for God, He pays us through men sometimes.

“To me, an award is some sort of encouragement. If I get it on any day, I will give all the glory and honor to God for letting his people accept the work I’m doing”, Tiwa said.

“People say I don’t deserve awards but honestly I think it is their opinion. Everyone has his or her musician that they like so I am not bothered. Most people say I don’t deserve awards but deep down their hearts they know every gospel musician deserves award”, she said.

She however expressed the view that the priority of gospel musicians ought to be the propagation of the gospel and not just entertainment:

“We should thrive on Biblical messages more than just entertainment.  We can only blend a little bit of the entertainment factor with carefulness as preachers of the message through music…I really enjoy the fact that even hip life artistes are now doing stuff with gospel artistes, it is refreshing to hear such”, she added.

“I am not just a singer, I am a minister of the Gospel of Christ through my songs and there are many whose broken hearts get mended, whose tears get dried, and whose sorrows turn into joy when they listen to my songs with a heart of prayer.

“That is what being a gospel musician is all about and as Christians or as a country that professes to be a Christian country, we must do all we can to support the gospel music industry; that is why I want to win this particular category just to lift high gospel music,” she told this reporter.
