Legendary Ghanaian Gospel music trio, Daughters of Glorious Jesus(DoGJ), would soon be launching their 30-year anniversary celebrations and their management was in our studios to give out exclusives into the activities lined up.
At the apex of planned activities to commemorate their 30 years of Gospel music, the trio would be having an official press conference on the 1st of May 2019, to give inside details on the journey so far and what to expect from the activities lined up and the next phase of their ministry.
They tipped us off a social media challenge soon to kickstart which requires contestants to video themselves singing their favorite DoGJ song and hashtag glorious30 across all their social media platforms.
The winners of the challenge would stand a chance of dining with the trio as well as touring and performing with them on some shows.
Daughters of Glorious Jesus would also be displaying quite a number of local and international recognitions and awards they accrued over the years at the press conference.
There also is an upcoming book yet to be launched by the trio. Further details into this insight would be unmasked at the press conference.
Highlights of some of their laurels records them as being the first ever gospel artistes to be nominated in the Ghana Music Awards’ Artiste of the Year category in 2000, before the likes of Ohemaa Mercy and Joe Mettle later on reached that status.
It is interesting to note that proceeds from each of the dozen albums they have to their credit have been donated towards diverse CSR indulgences such as renovating the Korle Bu Cardiothoracic Centre and their most recent one being a total overhauling of the children’s ward of the 37 Military Hospital.
Daughters of Glorious Jesus is made up of Cynthia Appiadu (lead singer), Edna Sarpong, and Monica Owusu Ansah. Cynthia, the youngest, writes and composes most of the songs of the group.
They started as part of the choir of the Resurrection Power and Living Bread Ministries, then headed by the late Rev. Francis Akwasi Amoako in 1987.
Later, the General Overseer of the Church, Bishop Akwasi Asare Bediako, saw their potential and encouraged them to form a group. They proceeded to minister through song at various church crusades and conventions.
Their debut album was Anwanwa Do, released in 1990. Since then, they have won awards consistently through a number of albums and hit songs. In 2003, they released Aseda recounting their trials, tribulations and their miraculous deliverance from death.
Some of their hits include Mebo Wo Din Daa, Edin No, Asomdwoe Hene, Tumi Wo Mu, Fata Ayeyie, Ewurade, Yesu, Woye M’ade Nyinaa, Aseda Ben, Yeyi Waye, Okasa Preko, Fa Wasem To Awurade Anim, Momma yenben Awurade, Odomfo, Onakwafo Nyame, etc.
