Ghanaian gospel singer, Norris Oppong, has stated that there is nothing wrong with gospel artistes demanding a fee to perform at church services, saying gospel artistes like labourers, are worth their wages.
The issue of gospel artistes charging a fee prior to performing at church events remains a contentious issue, with others arguing that as ministers, such artistes should not be seen to be commercialising the propagation of God’s word.
But the gospel said apart from his church where he would not ask questions if asked to perform, an invitation to sing at another church should come with some payment.
Norris Oppong, who is set to embark on a radio tour in some selected regions in the country to promote his upcoming album, said such fees demanded by gospel artistes also go to offset costs incurred in the production of tracks and for promotions on TV, radio and other media, in addition to putting such songs on CD.
He however, announced plans of touring some selected radio stations Cape Coast, Takoradi, Koforidua, Sunyani and Northern regions to promote his yet to be released album.
The tour, dubbed “The Return Of Brother Oppong”, is set to take the gospel artiste closer to his loyal fans and music lovers in the regions. Even though the list of the regions he will be touring is not yet out, he will be starting from the Ashanti Region.
The date of the tour will be announced later.
Brother Oppong while on tour will take some time off to visit some church to also introduce themselves properly to the congregation and also thank them for accepting the into the music industry.
The radio tour is powered by his management team and supported by Beatwaves Productions.
