Award-winning Ghanaian singer Sista Afia has disclosed that her tangent on the type of music she writes and makes took a positive turn after the Covid-19 virus became a pandemic.

The singer who was born Gawugah Francisca on 7th January 1993 shared this on a Twitter space interview with YFM on December 8th, 2021. According to her, the life-threatening Covid virus put the world at a standstill and altered the way of life of everyone including herself. “Shows were locked, movement was limited, and life was stagnant but this is when I realized suddenly that I needed to focus on adding a little bit more purpose to the kind of music I do”

She explained that from that period, her choice of words, intent, and purpose for writing almost all the songs she’s released since then changed: She wanted to have a voice for women and make sure her music brought happiness to the people. She no longer focused on song instrumentals or catchphrases that could churn in the most streams but rather sounds that would entertain and make a difference in the lives of many.

Sista Afia believes whoever survived Covid survived for a purpose and she thinks the period drew her closer to her purpose for doing music. She’s had a wonderful 2022 and looks forward to a busy year next year since life is coming back to normal
